Thank you for sharing that. I think that's a very important piece to keep because as we get thrown into schooling and "the real world" we can easily lose track of our goals and aspirations and having something like this to read would remind us of the things that are important to us. Maybe I should write down my goals and aspirations :)

Good luck Daniel, I'm sure you'll accomplish all of that and more. I too wanted to work for a video game company and I did. Electronic Arts paid for me to attend the massive E3 convention two years ago... not because I helped them program a game, but because I came up with a novel way to market one of their games.

I studied computer science, but being a programmer isn't the only way to work in the gaming industry. They need artists of all sorts, graphic design, music design, motion capture, level design, character design, advertising, puzzles, ... so you can probably find a way to integrate your interest in the arts with your techie side and be a novel and valued contributor.

A commitment is a choice. You have a choice to make that commitment or not. What you're really saying is that you want a day-by-day escape clause. Just in case.

The trap you seek to avoid - making a commitment then staying committed for the wrong reasons - can happen whether that commitment is for a day or for a year or for a lifetime. You could make a daily choice to stay with someone - without commitment - but for the wrong reason the same way.

On the other hand, commitment is something that can be invaluable to people. Stability is something we all crave. Moreover, I think that any psychologist will say that humanity does itself harm when commitment is minimized over the long term.

But then again, I know you know all that. What you choose to do is hate a word but act in accordance with it, because you know it is the right thing to do.
